The hearth industry never stops moving forward, and the 1990's
were no exception. Wood combustion now has become far more
efficient. Various types of gas combustion (vented/direct
vent/ unvented) allow you to put a fireplace almost anywhere.
A diamond shaped fireplace in the wall of a stairway? No problem.
A
coffee table fireplace? Been there.
There are many stoves and fireplaces that burn wood, natural
gas, or propane gas. Even electric and pellet fueled models
are now available.
It would be impossible to cover the entire topic within these
pages, and so we urge a visit to our showroom. We are always
available to answer your questions and provide you with detailed
information on all available fireplace options.
ABOUT GAS LOGS
If your fireplace will draw correctly you can choose to use
vented or unvented (also called "vent free") gas
logs.
Vented gas logs are attractive due to a large flame profile
and many varied log looks. Glowing embers complete the picture.
These logs must have a drawing chimney - which means most
of their heat escapes up the flue, just like a wood dire.
Good heat is only felt near the fire.
Unvented
gas logs are ok for poorly drawing chimneys or when heat is
the primary need. They actually operate with the damper closed!
They heat tremendously, but there is a downside: some unwanted
by-products of combustion are present, the logs are not as
realistic in appearance, and a wooden mantel often needs a
hood mounted on the fireplace to keep it from overheating.
When visiting our showroom, try to bring measurements of
your fireplace opening, the distance to the mantel, and the
make and model of any existing firebox or accessories. This
will ensure that we are able to go over your options thoroughly.
Our primary concern is to give you the whole story so you
get no surprises later. There is no place in the state of
Georgia with more to show (burning displays) and more expert
information.
